NEW TOURS

SPAIN - In Search of Iberian Lynx
On this five day short break, we combine excellent winter birding with the chance to observe the rare Iberian Lynx. Following six decades of decline and range contraction, the Iberian Lynx received the dubious title of becoming the world's rarest cat and was listed as critically endangered. From 2002 however, intensive and ongoing conservation efforts has seen the population steadily increase and now with over 160 mature individuals it is possible to observe these majestic felines for the first time in decades. The main stronghold centres on the Sierre de Andujar in Andalucia, which is home to around 70% of the entire population... and will act as our base throughout the tour. In addition to the Lynx, other tour highlights are likely to include White-headed Duck, Spanish Imperial Eagle, Black Vulture, Little and Great Bustards, Black-bellied and Pint-tailed Sandgrouse, Azure-winged Magpie, Firecrest, Crested Tit, Greater Flamingo and Common Crane, while other mammals may include Wild Boar, Spanish Ibex, Moufflon and Otter.

MOROCCO - The Complete Circuit
Morocco is both scenic and exciting and offers the richest birdlife to be found anywhere in North Africa. This tour is designed to cover all of the major habitats and important birding areas, giving us a good chance to see almost all of the region's numerous target species, many of which can be found nowhere else within the Western Palearctic. Our journey takes us from the snow-capped Atlas Mountains, where targets include Levaillant's Woodpecker, Crimson-winged Finch and Atlas Horned Lark to the Atlantic Coast where Bald Ibis and African Marsh Owl are amongst the many birds we hope to encounter. In addition we will also visit a number of Desert locations, where birds include Desert Sparrow, Pharaoh Eagle Owl, Egyptian Nightjar, Fulvous Chatterer and Greater Hoopoe-lark. While other targets include Moussier's Redstart, Black-crowned Tchagra, Double-spurred Francolin, Plain Martin, Red-rumped Wheatear, Tristram's Warbler, African Desert Warbler, Common Bulbul and House Bunting,...etc!

GREECE & MACEDONIA - Lake Kerkini in Spring
This two centre tour offers some of the most diverse wildlife in Eastern Europe and while primarily focusing on birds, it will also provide an excellent array of wild flowers, reptiles, butterflies and other interesting insects. Lake Kerkini ranks as one of the best inland waters for birds in Northern Greece, if not of the whole region and is truly a birders’ paradise. Although an artificial reservoir, the shallow waters and large flooded forests attract many breeding birds, including an impressive selection of herons, egrets, spoonbills, cormorants and pelicans. Additionally, impressive mountains rise to the north of the lake and provide not only a stunning backdrop, but also several interesting passerines and raptors. First however we begin with a 3 night visit to Southern Macedonia, a beautiful and mountainous country where time still goes at a much slower pace. It is a tiny country and one which most people are not familiar with, but as a home for wildlife it is hard to find a greater richness in Europe. Indeed the fine mix of habitats will ensure a fascinating and memorable stay, while the abundance of wildlife means our days will be packed full of interest, despite the gentle pace of the tour.
