ABOUT OUR TOURS
His interest in wildlife started at the early age of 12 whilst on holiday in the Scottish Highlands, this soon led him to become a keen birdwatcher and member of many related organisations. Now with over 30 years experience, this interest has become a way of life, he's travelled extensively throughout the UK from Scilly to Shetland amassing a wealth of experience on the way. However nowadays, the majority of his birding is done close to home in North Nottinghamshire where he lives with his family. His travels have also taken him to many of the finest birding sites in Europe including Bulgaria, The Czech Republic, Lesvos, Cyprus, Finland, The Canary Islands and France as well as over a dozen visits to the various regions of Spain. Further afield he has visited Israel, Canada, Kenya, India, China and the US.
He is also a keen armature wildlife photographer with examples of his work published in several birding magazines as well as this website.
Based in North Nottinghamshire, Ian is a much liked and hugely respected birder who shows a dedication to patch watching that is unsurpassed. Over the years he has found an enviable list of rarities, which serve as just reward for the long hours spent in the field and proving not only his dedication, but also his attention to detail and knowledge of bird identification. Further afield he has travelled throughout much of Europe, South Africa, India and Israel, as well as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and the US. However Ian's real passion remains here in the UK, where he finds great pleasure from observing and understanding the magic of migration. This passion has seen him travel far and wide, from Scilly to Shetland, but it is the latter which has captured his heart, and now with over twenty visits under his belt, he considers Shetland to be his second home. Ian joined the Lanius team in 2016 and has already proved himself to be a valued addition.
